Change request
The formal route for altering an agreed scope.
Definition
A documented amendment to a fixed scope, usually with its own cost and timeline impact. Common in fixed-price engagements, where anything outside the original definition has to be re-agreed.
Why it matters
A high change-request rate is a signal about the scoping, not about the client. If they are frequent, the original scope was written before the problem was understood, which is an argument for a discovery phase, or for time and materials, rather than for tighter change control.
