Statement of work (SOW)
The document that defines what is being delivered.
Definition
A contractual document setting out scope, deliverables, acceptance criteria, timeline, and commercial terms for a piece of work. It sits under a master agreement and is specific to one engagement.
Why it matters
The most valuable part of an SOW is the exclusions. Anyone can list what is included; a provider willing to write down what is explicitly not in scope is one that has thought about where the disagreement will come from. If exclusions are missing, add them.
