Ramp-down
Ending or shrinking an engagement in a planned way.
Definition
The agreed process for reducing or ending an engagement: notice period, handover, and transfer of access and documentation. The counterpart to the ramp-up at the start.
Why it matters
Read the ramp-down terms before you sign, not when you need them. The two things worth checking are the notice period and whether handover is included in the rate. Both are far easier to negotiate at the beginning than at the point where you have decided to leave.
