Trial period
An agreed window to confirm the fit before committing.
Definition
A short initial period, commonly two to four weeks, during which either side can end the engagement with little notice if the match is wrong.
Why it matters
A provider confident in its vetting will offer one. Use it deliberately rather than passively: agree at the start what 'working' looks like by the end of it, otherwise the period passes without anyone deciding anything and the question just gets harder to raise.
