Working practice

Retrospective

A regular review of how the work went, not what was delivered.

Definition

A recurring meeting where a team examines its own process: what helped, what obstructed, and what one or two things will change next iteration. It is separate from a demo or a status review, which look at output.

Why it matters

A retrospective without a change owner and a date is a complaints session that teaches people not to bother. With an external team there is a second failure: staff who report to a provider will not raise problems about the client in front of the client, so make sure a route exists where they can.
