Passing work between time zones so it never stops.
Definition
An operating model where work is handed between teams in different time zones so that something is always in progress, commonly used for support rotations, monitoring, and high-volume queues.
Why it matters
It is genuinely valuable for queue-shaped work and genuinely painful for design-shaped work. The handover is the hard part: without a disciplined written handoff, follow-the-sun becomes a game of telephone that loses a little context each time the sun moves.
