Working practice
Knowledge transfer
Deliberately moving what one person knows into the team.
Definition
The planned process of moving context out of an individual's head and into documentation, recorded sessions, pairing and reviewed code, so that the work survives that person leaving. It is distinct from handover, which happens at the end; knowledge transfer runs throughout.
Why it matters
Providers who resist it are protecting their own lock-in, and it is a legitimate reason to walk away. Ask what the documentation obligation is and when it is produced. Anything promised only at the end of the contract tends not to arrive.
