Quality assurance (QA)
Deliberately testing whether the thing built actually works.
Definition
The discipline of verifying software against its intended behaviour, through automated tests, exploratory testing, and structured regression checks. Quality assurance covers the process that prevents defects, while quality control is the inspection that catches them.
Why it matters
If QA is not named in the scope, it will be assumed by both sides and done by neither, and your users will do it instead. Decide explicitly whether the provider tests its own work, whether you accept that, and who signs off. The answer changes the price and the honest timeline.
