Working practice
Definition of done
The written standard a piece of work has to meet before it counts.
Definition
An agreed checklist that every unit of work must satisfy before it is called finished: tested, reviewed, documented, deployed, and whatever else your context requires. It exists so that finished means the same thing to the person building and the person paying.
Why it matters
Most disputes about outsourced quality are actually disputes about this, discovered late. Agreeing it in writing before work starts costs an hour and prevents the argument entirely. If a provider will not write one down, that tells you something.
