Another engineer reading a change before it ships.
Definition
The practice of having every change examined by at least one other engineer before it is merged, checking correctness, clarity and fit with the existing system. It is both a quality control and the main way context spreads through a team.
Why it matters
With outsourced engineers, review is where standards are actually transmitted, so a team where the external people only review each other will drift from your conventions within weeks. The failure is rubber-stamp approval, which looks like a healthy process in the metrics and catches nothing.
