Velocity
How much work a team completes per iteration, used for forecasting.
Definition
A measure of throughput across a sprint or iteration, used to forecast how long remaining work will take. It is meaningful only within a single team over time, because estimates are calibrated to that team and to nothing else.
Why it matters
Comparing velocity between teams or between vendors is meaningless and easy to game, since a team can double its velocity by doubling its estimates. Treat it as a forecasting aid for one team, never as a productivity score or a contractual metric.
